A Masonic lodge confers the three Masonic degrees of Entry Apprentice, Fellowcraft (or Fellowcraft), and Master Mason. While there is no degree in Freemasonry higher than Master Mason, there are additional titles that are only offered to those who are master Masons. The standard and widely accepted Masonic rite has three degrees: trainees, interns and the highest rank anyone can obtain, Master Mason. The Scottish Rite, a branch of Masonry, has 33 degrees, which are awarded based on merit and ability. Compared to the three degrees of standard Masonry, these degrees require more time and exams to be pursued.
It was early March of that year when I opened the package of his first article, “The Thirty-Three Degrees of Freemasonry”. This article explains how Freemasonry transmits its teachings and principles from generation to generation through these degrees. The concept and names of each grade were adapted from the artisan guilds of the Middle Ages. The status of any Mason can be identified by their degree, which represents the steps they have taken from the lowest ranks to the highest degree of Masonic knowledge. The science of this regeneration is one of the lost keys to Masonry, and that is why ancient Masonry was founded on thirty-three degrees.
To obtain grade 32, for example, a Mason must have been a Master Mason for at least 14 years, have been elected Master of the Lodge, and have served successfully on the Supreme Council. Once a Mason has completed his third degree, which usually takes a few years, he receives all the rights and privileges he has and will become known as a Master Mason. The graduate apprentice degree provides an introduction to the Masonic order, in which candidates learn about the rituals, symbolism, and beliefs of Freemasonry. These additional titles could be considered honorary and are awarded to Masons who have maintained constant and significant participation in the order. Once again, the member is ready to advance to the degree of Master Mason when he has learned the lessons given to him in the Fellowcraft degree.
